I'VE GOT SOME BAD (AND GOOD) NEWS FOR YOU:
THE BAD: winter is coming
Virtually all the CFOs of the Fortune 500 are predicting a recession starting in 2023. It's coming whether we like it or not.
THE GOOD: fortunes are made in recessions
Many recruiters are flushed out, and others become stronger, bigger, more profitable, and create wealth for themselves and their team.
Whether you are flushed out or come out stronger
is entirely up to you

If I haven't scared you off yet, let me ask you a question:
Are you prepared?
Politics aside, we can see the writing on the wall. Over the last year, recruiters have been living high on the hog and gorging themselves on a tight labor market.
But if you look at some of the 'normies' out there (ya know…regular people with ‘real’ jobs) they're feeling the hurt. …and while to them they're feeling the effects of a recession, for us on the agency side of things we've been well-insulated.
But that will change, and for us what may seem like a strong economy, for another poor soul they see it as a recession (or depression if they’ve lost their job).
It's important not to lose sight of what’s coming down the pike for us, and it’s the smart recruiters who are getting ready to ride out the storm while the rest are going to be in for a rude awakening.
Recession is coming and there's no denying it at this point.
I've been preaching this for a while now, ever since 2017 (broken record anyone?)
And now that you can almost hear its footsteps around the corner, it seems that every Tom, Dick, and Harry is an economic expert now.
(after their stints as pandemic experts and foreign affairs experts of course).
But we all know what’s coming right around the corner, and it’s almost impossible to miss.
I see the way this is starting to affect recruiters. When I talk to you folks on the front lines, I always make it a point to ask what you're hearing from your clients and candidates.
You see, what makes a recession a recession is the change in our clients and candidates behavior.
And you better believe they are gearing up for it right now.
There’s a better than even chance that right now, your clients’ leadership teams believe a recession is coming, and they're starting to prepare for it.
Almost all CFOs of the Fortune 500 predict negative growth in 2023, so I ain't pulling this willy-nilly out of you-know-where.
That means (you guessed it) hiring freezes, potential layoffs, spinning off business units, shutting off investment in non-essential projects, etc.
Maybe not now, but the writing is on the wall for those who are willing to look.
I’m willing to bet that many of you have heard the first rumblings of this from your clients, or have heard your candidates start to show reluctance to make major career moves.
I have, and many of my clients have as well.
Bottom-line, I fully expect over the next six months to see across the board layoffs affecting 5-10% of the workforce in many industries. In some sectors, it will be much higher. In others, nothing.
But the average…yeah it's coming.
Do you think that will influence your bottom line?
Sure as a frog’s butt is watertight, it will.
But fear not. I have a game-plan ready for you, and I cover all of this in my 21-day RecessionBREAKING email series.
Because believe me, the best time to prepare for a recession is before a recession.
…and there's not a whole lotta time left.
But if you start NOW, you'll have time to lay down the groundwork necessary to not only survive but to actually grow and thrive during the recession.
But you need to start now.
Recessions are where fortunes are made, but only when you plug all the leaky holes in your practice that the roaring recruiting economy of the last decade compensated for, notwithstanding that little 'pandemic hiccup.'
